One French Sound That Can Change Your Whole Message

Sometimes, French speakers don’t laugh at your grammar – they laugh at one sound.

In my new video, I tell the story of a class singing “Au claire de la loune, prête‑moi ta ploume…” and explain how confusing [y] (u) and [u] (ou) can turn a serious sentence into something ridiculous or even offensive:

  • Raïssa est rousse vs Raïssa est russe
  • Vous êtes sourd ? vs Vous êtes sûr ?

The video shows:

  • How [y] and [u] are really produced (same lips, different tongue position)
  • A simple [i] → [y] trick you can use today
  • Short exercises to make the change automatic
